I am a dedicated and professional Yoga Teacher with 18 years teaching experience.  I am passionate about the art of Yoga and live a yogic lifestyle with a daily practice (sadhana) of yoga and meditation.

Yoga has been part of my life since I was 18.  When i started travelling in my early 20’s, I would seek out a class and attend at least once a week.  It just made me feel good and I loved the discipline of knowing that I would be stretching, nurturing and relaxing my body to balance my busy lifestyle.

When I arrived in Fremantle, there were so many Yoga classes it was like a dream come true for me.  I attended many classes until I found  a teacher that suited me and commenced my Teachers Training Course with her, which started me on the path of becoming a teacher.

I decided that this was the path I wanted to take as it resonated with my soul. I sold my small business and devoted myself to teaching Yoga and completed another Teachers Training Course with FINY in 2000. I frequently attend other yoga classes as well as similar holistic sessions to continually expand my knowledge and understanding of the body and to enable me to be a better teacher.

I am a lover of nature and next to Yoga, walking in the bush is one of my most favourite activities.  I feel the connection I have to our environment has deepened and appreciated my love of life.

While the majority of my class consists of Classical Hatha Yoga asanas and pranayama, I also include stretches and movements which I have learnt during the approximately 37 years that I have been practising yoga.   I like to create an atmosphere of calm and peacefulness where I structure each class with a relaxation at the beginning to bring my students into the present moment and to help them feel a connection to their body and breath.  I then move into Yoga asanas (postures) which helps with alignment, posture and core strength.  I complete my class with 10 minutes Meditation and pranayama (breathing) and 10 minutes relaxation. I structure my classes to suit all levels from beginners to very experienced students.

I recently completed three Women’s Yoga Retreats at Rottnest Island over the past 18 months where I received amazing feedback from the participants.  The island created the perfect setting where we did yoga on the beach, bike rides, ate sumptuous vegetarian food, relaxed, laughed and enjoyed supportive company.

The next retreat will be from the 8th–11th May 2009. Please contact me on 9335 6427 or email debbie.hay@iinet.net.au for a brochure.
